Applicants should be able to commit to the entire 10-month program year, which runs from March 30, 2015 to January 30, 2016.

This position is based at The Land Trust for Central North Carolina either in Asheboro, NC (preferred) or Salisbury, NC.

Typical workweek is M-F 8:30am to 5:30pm, however because a good portion of this position is to assist with outreach and educational activities and events, occasional weekend or evening work will be expected, but comp time provided.

The focus for this position will be land stewardship and outreach. The member will assist with all outreach activities, including helping lead hikes and events; incorporate volunteer stewardship into our land stewardship programs; and help advertise these events to a broader base. This position will mainly work to expand our educational and outreach programs to new portions of our region and to encourage more participation from a wide variety of audiences.

Every month we host at least one hike or kayak trip or other outreach activity, and the member will specifically assist with planning and carrying those out, including creating press releases and sending letters to local newspapers and posting on our social media. The member will help with our regular Uwharrie Trail workdays every second Saturday of the month, and our annual Uwharrie Trail 40-mile thru-hike the last weekend of May. The member will assist with property monitoring and stewardship, baseline inventory work, and will organize and carry out a couple of day-long events dedicated to having volunteers help with property stewardship. The member will also be the primary person responsible for organizing a paddling trip for each of the four months of May, June, July and August that corresponds to a different paddle featured and that counts towards our Hike and Paddle Challenge launched last year, open to the public.
